Auberry goes to Chiapas.(click on pics for bigger)

Here we are on the first day at the Marte R. Gomez site near Tapachula in Chiapas Mexico. It is the southern most state of Mexico on the Guatemalan border. On the Pacific side. This is on a Friday. Eight days later we have church here under arched block windows and on a perfectly flat concrete slab. Ready for tile on another trip in the future. Here is the progress. And we did dental work at the same time , and we had an evangelistic seminars at night for one week. In another town. We only had a break on Sabbaths. It was go go go all the time. We got many thing accomplished though. Steve did not even take the last sabbath off, he saw dental patients all day after church. It was hot and humid the whole time. The people and the food were awesome though, really nice people, easygoing and very willing to help in anyway they could. This is a log of the trip of the Auberry SDA church from central CA.(about 19 people including kids) Takes place from Feb.14th to Feb. 24th. All in 10 days. One day devoted to getting back to the airport, 2 sabbaths , so all was done in 7 working days. Many of the local people came and helped. We had a bunch of Masonry workers show up and help too. All the glory goes to God who made everything go really well in all the aspects of the project. Everything came together well and we accomplished many things in a short period of time. All by God's grace toward us through his Son Jesus.

Hand made tortillas cooked on a wood fired grill made from fresh ground corn masa. The best.

Here you can see the hand dug system the holding tank hole in the foreground and the leach field in the back, it is 5 ft deep. The tank hole is over 6 ft. deep. Andrew and Indy in the forefront, supervising of course.

Here is the Church 9 days later

Yeah they worked hard and the local Chiapanteca's showed up to help they worked non stop. It was great fun they where all mellow easy going to work with, no predjudice or "attitudes" . It was a blast. Very nice people. I love this place, I will visit again for sure.

Here we are working at the Marte R. Gomez location, outdoors of course. The conditions where very primitive. This is Steve and Jana working here. They worked very hard everyday. We always worked at least 2 hours past our cutoff time. I took the last day off. Steve worked all day sabbath on patients that just kept on coming. I was sick with a lung flu of some kind and I couldn't take it anymore so I took the rest of sabbath off.

Here is the cleaning station. Notice the dirt floors. I did my best, here along the bench you can see the trays of dental tools, (cassetes) I have amalgam , composite and extraction cassettes all sterilized and ready to go for the dentist and assistant.

Guatemalan women in town

Here are some more pictures of indigenous people in the border town I visited. They really stand out with their beautiful embroidered shirts and natural black hair.

Here is a picture of a girl carrying goods on a busy street in a border town called "Talisman". This is on the Guatamalan side of the border from Chiapas Mexico. I was lucky to get this picture, most of the indigenous people are very shy and fearful of cameras. They will usually turn away and you miss the face.

Wilderness instructor makes a quick fire with 2 small sticks , both from a coastal redwood tree, which is not the ideal material for this type of ignition method.

Slip and Slide falls

Bruce does a clean line 8' drop off slip and slide falls. He makes it look easy (because of a good line) but most first timers get pushed into the wall at river right and you can get pinned there too, as the force of the water is pushing river right. So you want to boof left and paddle hard left right after you drop.

Yeah this was a good day to do Pauley falls the flow was 280 cfs or something close. The week before it was 360 and a boater did this in an open Pyranah Canoe with air bladders strapped in and a totally open deck, I wished I had my camera then!
